Honorable Mentions of 2008

These are the movies I really liked, but didn’t quite make my top ten.  I still throughly recommend them all.  I still cannot believe The Visitor did not make my Top 10 list.  In no particular order.

Frost/Nixon is good movie with great performances.

A comedy by the Coen Brothers.  What is not to love.

The acting in Doubt is better than the movie itself.  Still, a very good, thought provoking time.

doubt

A very good movie.  More deserving of its’ best pic nom than Frost/Nixon of Ben Button.

A super fun movie.  Overshadowed by the Dark Knight, but arguably the 2nd best Super hero movie ever.

Son of Rambow is a charming comedy.  Seek it out.

Charlie Kaufman’s directorial debut is considered a masterpiece by some. I’m still unsure of it, ultimately well worth watching.

synecdoche_new_york

The 11th best movie of 2008.  This is a must watch in my opinion.

  1. Hey man, was just checkin out ur site. some of these movies ive never heard of but i definitely think im gonna have to check some of em out. you read anything interesting, or are you strictly a movie buff?

  2. Hey,thanks for checking out the site. I have been reading a lot lately and the best thing I have read in a long time was The Road. You have probably heard of it, but if not I highly recommend it.

Do you have any book recommendations for me?

  3. I havent heard of The Road, but ill look around for it. Sounds to me like you might like books written by Chuck Palahniuk. He’s the author of Fight Club, so if you like that style, you might like some of his other books hes got out there. And of course i have to recommend Lord of the Rings if youre into that genre. The movies never quite top the books in my opinion :) And thats saying something, cause the movies were great.

  4. Chuck Palahniuk is great. I’ve read Survivor, Choke, and Fight Club, and I have Invisible Monsters in my to read pile. Are you a big fan of his and do you recommend any more of his books? I like his books, but I don’t think I’m gonna read anymore after Invisible Monsters unless there is a reason I should.

I haven’t read any LOTR, but I’m sure I will at some point. Everyone seems to love it.

  5. Im not really a huge fan. Ive only read Survivor and seen Fight Club. But both had some interesting twists to them. Survivor was a bit…graphic lol, so i guess it made me hesitant to pick up another one of his books.
I thought of another author, but you already might be familiar with them. Anything by Dan Brown is usually pretty good. Davinci Code and Angels and Demons were pretty big, which is why im pretty sure youve heard of them already. But he also has Deception Point and Digital Fortress which were pretty enjoyable.

  6. I like Survivor way more than Fight Club so I wouldn’t rush off and read Fight Club anytime soon if I were you.

I have heard lots of good things about Angels and Demons and I know the movie is coming out soon. I will definitely read it now.
